Migrant workers built their own housing on the extreme outskirts of Rome. Their quasi-cities had no sewer system. ACEA was required to create a sewer system for this area. The ACEA was also charged with creating a sewage network for the Lake of Bracciano area. A total of 81 sewer pumping installations were created. Underwater electric pumps were used. This paper discusses the problem, the selection of electric underwater pumps, considerations on the reliability of underwater pumps and the cost of maintenance operations, and evaluation of construction costs.
