This powerpoint presentation presents the use of SSS Modeling to meet the requirements of the Stage 2 Disinfection Byproduct Rule (DBPR), including the
Initial Distribution System Evaluation (IDSE). The SSS Modeling uses water age as
a surrogate for DPB concentration. A tracer study used to help calibrate
model and fine tune operations in Charleston, South Carolina, is presented, along with a fluoride tracer study by the town of Cary, North Carolina. A summary of water quality problems
associated with water age is provided, along with other potential model uses, water quality in storage tanks, and the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for more advanced evaluation of
storage tanks. Includes tables, figures.
