THE CONTINUED IMPROVEMENT OF COMPUTER SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY AND STANDARDS MAKES NEW APPROACHES TO INFORMATION SYSTEMS LIFE CYCLE PLANNING MORE PRACTICAL AND AFFORDABLE. THIS NEW APPROACH--ENTITLED BUSINESS PROCESS RE-ENGINEERING FOR OPEN SYSTEMS HAS THE FOLLOWING CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS (CFS). FIRST, MISSION CRITICAL BUSINESS PROCESSES MUST HAVE EXECUTIVE OWNERS WHO ARE TASKED FOR THEIR CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT. SECOND, KEY BUSINESS PROCESSES MUST BE BENCHMARKED AND ASSESSED FOR ELIMINATION OF WASTE IN ALL STEPS AND FUNCTIONS. THIRD, SYSTEMS ARCHITECTURES MUST BE BUILT AROUND THE FRAMEWORK OF OPEN SYSTEMS TO SUPPORT KEY PROCESSES.
