Keeping Pace With Digital Data Using Information System Technologies: A New Challenge for Today's Distribution System Engineers and Managers
利用信息系统技术与数字数据保持同步:当今配电系统工程师和管理人员面临的新挑战
The role of today's water distribution system engineer and manager is rapidly
changing. A wealth of sophisticated digital data sources, desktop geographic
information systems (GIS) and database tools, and new distribution system
modeling packages have provided the opportunity to not only conduct work faster
but, more importantly, to provide more accurate and insightful information for
critical decision making. A fundamental challenge for effective use of digital
data is proficiency in managing, processing, and interpreting large amounts of
available data. This paper discusses how new information technologies have been
applied to managing large data sets on complex infrastructure engineering
planning studies and the benefits realized. The paper focuses on processing
detailed metered sales data, determining water use rates and demand projections,
and allocating demands to a complex water distribution system hydraulic model. Includes tables, figures.
