The City of Henderson has initiated an annual reclaimed water survey, which is a partnering of the reclaimed water purveyor with the reclaimed water user in order to monitor, advise on, and correct reclaimed water use issues before enforcement becomes necessary. People are working together to ensure the safe use of reclaimed water, not from an advisory position but from an open platform designed to help and correct. The City's annual survey includes 15 reclaimed water, raw water, and auxiliary water users. This paper lists: the responsibilities of the Cross-Connection Control Specialist during the surveys; the points of connection and facilities inspected in the first reclaimed water survey in February 2000; the cross-connection control issues found and corrected; the points of connection and facilities inspected during the second reclaimed water survey in February 2001; and, the cross-connection control issues that were corrected at the end of the second survey. The statistics for the Year 2000 and Year 2001 surveys represent: compliance without enforcement becoming an issue; potential cross-connections which were corrected before they developed into a backflow incident; and, the success of the partnering between the City of Henderson and the reclaimed water users.
