As water utility managers face an increasingly competitive environment, they may look to the

Baseball in the modern era, perhaps more than any other reference in the pantheon of sports,
is characterized by similar challenges and offers durable lasting lessons. This paper
identifies several of the notable parallels between the challenges of benchmark utility
management and winning a pennant and attempts to glean from the annals of sports legend
and lore the critical lessons for success in the never-ending utility management season.
