This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of a project to expand the Olivenhain Water Treatment plant to meet regulatory and treatment challenges regarding water quality and total organic carbon concentration, manganese concentration, and taste and odor issues. Evaluation approach included:
Multiple Barrier Approach to Address Water Quality Issues; Treatment Categories for Consideration; Evaluated Multiple Alternatives Consisting of Combinations of Treatment Processes to Address Water Quality Issues;
Applied Standardized Criteria and Process to Evaluate Qualitative and Quantitative Aspects of Projects; and,
Developed Conceptual Level Cost Estimates. Identifying preferred processes included:
First was Ozone and Biological Filter as pretreatment before ultrafiltration (UF), and
Second was Powdered or Granular Activated Carbon;
Conducted Laboratory Testing of Preferred Process Alternatives; and,
Results were used to refine the decision evaluation and confirm the preferred treatment alternative.
