In order for utilities to ensure equity for current employees, to optimize the offerings of a diverse
workforce, to be prepared for the employees of the future, to ensure service equity to customers,
and to ensure public engagement by all communities served, we must take action now in the
name of race and social justice.
This paper is one of three that will describe Seattle Public Utilities' commitment, the adopted
framework for this work, as well as actions and initiatives already undertaken to accomplish the
objective of race and social justice. The paper describes outcomes and lessons learned, along with
resources and tools that will be of use to other organizations. Includes tables.
