This paper describes and discusses regrowth methods in distribution systems, provides guidance to utilities for selecting appropriate regrowth methods, and develops a framework for integrating regrowth methods into distribution regrowth control strategies. The methods used for microbial regrowth and regrowth potential assessment can be segregated into three general categories: microbiological detection and enumeration; microbial substrate quantification; and, distribution system simulation. Each of these methods are discussed in detail.
