This slide presentation outlines information on computer models identifying site-specific monitoring requirements to improve process control and treatment performance at the City of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Lake Michigan Filtration Plant (LMFP). Topics covered include: LMFP source water; LMFP water quality and operation practice; LMFP schematic; graph of model application to challenging water conditions experienced prior to model development; graph of chemical feed control for challenging water conditions after the model was employed at the plant; incorporating the model into LMFP's SCADA system; UV254 significantly affected chemical feed rates at LMFP; choosing the best coagulant to optimize performance and cost; major benefits of coagulation models; and, other applications of coagulation models.
