Although sanitary landfill guidelines have reduced the immediate public health hazards from exposure to solid wastes, environmental degradation can occur through leaching of organics and inorganics by infiltrating rainwater. This study evaluates the migration of leachate containing trace contaminants away from a solid waste landfill located upstream from an artesian well field. Benzene, dichloroethane, toluene, tetrachloroethylene, trichloroethylene, chloroform and other volatile organic and extractable compounds are analyzed. Includes 13 references, tables, figures.
