A CONED DISC-SPRING LOCKING MECHANISM IS UTILIZED IN ONE OF THE KENNAMETAL QUICK-CHANGE TOOLING SYSTEMS. PRECISE FORCES OF DISC SPRINGS SHOULD BE DETERMINED TO DESIGN CLAMPING UNITS WITH ADEQUATE PERFORMANCE AND REQUIRED CYCLE LIFE. THIS PAPER PROVIDES CALCULATIONS OF DISC SPRING FORCES BY THE IMPROVED FORMULA, AND THE METHODOLOGY TO ESTIMATE FATIGUE LIFE OF CONED DISC SPRINGS USED IN THE CLAMPING UNITS FOR LATHES AND MACHINING CENTERS.
