An existing water system often suffers from poor water quality due to an excessive retention time of water within the distribution system and other factors. In addition, security, health, emergency, system operational optimization (e.g. efficiency and leak detection), maintenance, training, and other vital issues present major challenges to owners and operators of water distribution systems. A new real time on-line computer model that utilizes integrated SCADA sensor input (from very few sensors) has been developed and implemented in both Europe and the United States. This model has proven to effectively control and manage water quality, security, and a massive amount of complex operational parameters associated with water distribution networks of all sizes. This paper describes the software and provides reference studies that demonstrate the multitude of benefits available to public and private users of this product. Includes figures.
