To specify acoustic noise emission (airborn, under normal operating conditions) limits and measurement methods. Primary concern is to ensure that noise levels generated by telecoms equipment is within generally accepted limits to minimise impact on human activity within the relevant environments (so will exclude considerations of safety). Proposed to use sound power rather than pressure levels for easier comparison between different equipments. Will exclude intentional sound emission (such as alarms).
