The major aim of this research is to develop a positive and negative switching mode ESI/LC/MS method for the cost-effective screening and monitoring of nonionic surfactants and phenolic endocrine disruptors (EDCs) in source and drinking waters. The studies include the optimization of solid phase extraction (SPE) sample preparation, separation, and detection conditions. Method sensitivity, accuracy and precision as well as matrix effects will be studied. The preliminary results indicate that these analytes can be separated on a reverse phase column by a gradient acetonitrile/water mobile phase and detected by ESI/MS.
