The Denver Water Department (Colorado) is in the process of developing automated facilities management. The evolution of facilities management in the water department is summarized, leading into a discussion of current efforts to integrate facilities management with the existing mapping information management system. The bulk of this article consists of lists of project requirements, grouped under the following headings: general system requirements, software, cost management, report specifications, data conversion, service and maintenance agreement, references, and system and implementation costs. The author then goes on to discuss selection of a vendor and development of the recommendation to purchase the system. The cost is estimated at about $1 million.
