The overall goals for this project presented on slides were: to provide
guidance to water industry managers,
based on a test with real assets, including
asset management options worth
considering;
performance measures worth tracking;
benefits and costs of the options;
for Management and for
Stakeholders;
data development and maintenance
costs; and,
recommendations on realistic
strategies for implementation. The research team and participating
utilities worked together throughout the
project to identify and evaluate the
options being studied. An initial list of about 50 performance
measures was used to select 7 measures
for study by all of the partner utilities. Additional measures were studied or
documented by some project partners. Each of the utilities was asked to
contribute data for a sample of up to 1,000
assets. The presentation gives an overview of the three options beginning with the Basic Option which guides investment decisions
based on service life concepts; the High-End Option uses weighted
performance measures to identify assets
most needing attention; and, the Strategic Option identifies the impact of
various investment options on system value. The presentation further outlines
High-level findings regarding usefulness of options and
measures for Distribution System Elements, along with
future research needs for distribution system
elements. Includes tables, figures.
