THE COORDINATE MEASURING MACHINE IS GAINING IMPORTANCE AS THE PRIMARY METHOD OF VERIFYING PROCESSES IN A MANUFACTURING ENVIRONMENT. CURRENT PRACTICE REQUIRES THAT THE CMM BE SUBJECTED TO A GAGE REPEATABILITY AND REPRODUCIBILITY STUDY TO EVALUATE THE PERCENTAGE OF TOLERANCE CONSUMED BY THE MEASUREMENT DEVICE. A CMM CHECKS MANY CHARACTERISTICS VERY QUICKLY WHICH RESULTS IN A VERY TIMES PROCESS TO EVALUATE THE SYSTEM. THIS PAPER ADDRESSES A METHODOLOGY THAT ACTS AS A SIMPLE EVALUATION METHOD TO TEST WHETHER THE CMM PROGRAM IS READY TO HAVE A GR&R PERFORMED OR NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED. IT ALSO PROPOSES A METHODOLOGY TO IMPROVE THE CAPABILITY OF THE CMM.
