THE PAPER DESCRIBES A UNIQUE, OPEN, AND FLEXIBLE SHEET METAL MANUFACTURING CAD/CAM SYSTEM WHICH EMPLOYS FEATURE RECOGNITION AND KNOWLEDGE-BASED MACHINING RULES. THESE RULES ARE FULLY INTEGRATED WITH A 2D, 3D, PARAMETRIC DESIGN AND DRAFTING MODULE FOR THE AUTOMATIC MANUFACTURE OF SHEET METAL PARTS. INNOVATIVE EXPERT SYSTEM TECHNIQUES OF ADVANCED FEATURE RECOGNITION AND KNOWLEDGE-BASED MANUFACTURING RULES SIMPLIFY THE PRODUCTION PROCESS. THEY ALSO SUPPORT AUTOMATED NC PROGRAMMING TIED DIRECTLY TO THE CAD DATABASE FOR THE DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF SHEET METAL PRODUCTS IN A VERY SHORT TIME.
