This standard establishes criteria for message formats and transmission characteristics that shall be used to design and/or procure systems and equipments. The interface between tactical systems should exploit the maximum capability of sensors and processors to provide precise information exchange to support tactical operations. Message formats contained in this standard are designed to support established doctrine and known requirements. Operational requirements vary with changes in weapons, national and international situations, and military factors. Similarly, technology constantly advances as a result of commercial and military applied research and development programs. Therefore, the standard is subject to review and change as operational requirements dictate and technical factors indicate.
