0VERALL PRODUCTIVITY OF WORKER AND MACHINE IS DIMINISHED WHEN HUMAN FACTORS ARE NOT CONSIDERED DURING THE ROBOT SYSTEM DESIGN PHASE. DESIGN DEFICIENCIES OF THE ROBOT-HUMAN INTERFACE HINDER THE ABILITY TO INTERACT WITH MACHINES IN TYPICAL ROBOTIC SYSTEMS. THIS REDUCES THE OVERALL PRODUCTIVITY OF BOTH WORKER AND MACHINE IN ROBOTIC SYSTEMS. A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM IS TO EFFICIENTLY AND EFFECTIVELY APPLY APPLICABLE HUMAN FACTORS (HF) GUIDELINES AND TECHNIQUES INTO ROBOTIC SYSTEM DESIGN. THE APPROACH IS TO EMPLOY EXPERT SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY TO ANALYZE AN ONGOING ROBOTIC SYSTEM DESIGN AND MAKE SPECIFIC HF DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE DESIGNER. THIS ANALYSIS IS DONE USING HEURISTIC RULES GOVERNING BOTH THE ROBOTIC AND HUMAN FACTORS DOMAINS. THE IDEA IS TO CREATE A TRANSPORTABLE HUMAN FACTORS CONSULTANT THAT CAN BE USED BY ANY ROBOT SYSTEM DESIGNER. A SYSTEM TO ACCOMPLISH THIS TASK IS DESCRIBE
