Three public-domain computer simulation models, PUREZ, HPSIM, and ACMODEL were evaluated in their ability to predict the dehumidification performance of four air-conditioning systems operating over a wide range of conditions. Based on the results, the most accurate model was selected for simulations of four additional air-conditioning systems. PUREZ was found to give the closest agreement to the measured dehumidification performance of the initial four units, and the additional analyses showed that its predictions of total, latent, and sensible cooling capacity are nearly within the uncertainties of the laboratory measurements. In general, PUREZ and HPSIM overpredicted the sensible heat ratio. ACMODEL was able to accurately predict total capacity; however, it overpredicted latent capacity and underpredicted sensible capacity.Units: Dual
