                SY/T 6423的本部分规定了无缝和焊接（埋弧焊除外）钢管的超声横波（由常规或相控阵技术产生)全周纵向和/或横向缺欠检测的要求。
除非订货要求另有规定之外，本部分规定的检测方法适用于纵向缺欠的检测。对于纵向缺欠，也可由制造商选择采用兰姆波检测。
对于无缝钢管，在购方和制造方达成协议的情况下，本部分规定可用于检测其他取向的缺欠。
本部分适用于外径不小于10mm的钢管，通常要求外径与壁厚比不小于5。
本部分也适用于圆形空心部件的检测。
注:对于外径与璧厚比小于5 的钢管的纵向缺欠检测，见附录A
