In most engineering curricula, students have very few opportunities to diversify their studies through electives. To expand those opportunities, the Department of Manufacturing Engineering of Miami University began offering sprint courses covering a variety of technical subjects that might not otherwise be included in the curriculum. The sprint course meets for three hours per week for five weeks, for which one semester-hour of credit is awarded. The experience to date indicates that the sprint courses have been very useful for students, faculty and the manufacturing engineering profession.
