Servicing and Installing Equipment using Flammable Refrigerants: Assessment of Field-made Mechanical Joints 使用易燃制冷剂维修和安装设备:现场制造机械接头的评估

The objective of this project is to experimentallyinvestigate the robustness and leak-tightness of various field-made mechanicaljoints used to connect refrigerant piping and system components for any kind ofHVAC&R application employing flammable refrigerants (ASHRAE Standard 34,classes A2L, A2, or A3). The focus of the study is on flame-free joiningmethods, such as flare, compression, or crimp/press type fittings used in fieldinstallation or field service. The motivation of the work is seen in thedesired use of various low-GWP refrigerant candidates that are flammable. Whileany refrigerant joint should be leak-free, the added safety concerns due topotential flammability issues increase the need to identify and characterizesuitable joining techniques for refrigerant piping and components. ASHRAEStandard 147 provides further information on current industry component andproduct design requirements to limit refrigerant leakage as well as acceptableleaks in stationary equipment. The outcome of this research is seen asimportant input to various ASHRAE standards and other relevant codes related torefrigerant safety as well as for the industry in general.
