Textile structural composites are composites reinforced by textile structures for load bearing structural applications. The increased popularity of textile structural composites in the recent years has been attributed to their damage tolerance characteristics and the potential for low cost manufacturing. In order to facilitate the communication between structural designer and composite manufacturer, an integrated design for manufacturing (IDFM) approach was established based on textile fiber architecture and processing parameters. This presentation will introduce the software packages based on IDFM, the braid control system (BCS), for 2-D braiding which includes a geometric design module, processing module, structural analysis module and cost analysis module. Similar package for 3-D braiding is also presented.
