The City of Brighton is located approximately 22 miles northeast of Denver, Colorado, and has a population of 14,000 people. Historically, the city has been primarily an agricultural and farming community, and agriculture is one of the city's major industries. With Brighton's proximity to Denver and with the construction of the new Denver Airport only 15 miles away, the projections for growth in Brighton are promising. One drawback, however that could impede growth, which the city has struggled with over the last two decades, has been poor quality water. A number of costly and frustrating attempts to improve water quality over the years have not been successful. This paper discusses the public relations effort conducted by the city to gain community support for a new water project aimed at improving water quality.
