To date, little research has been done on the effects that
recycle of waste filter backwash has on treated water quality.
To add to the limited data available on effects of recycle,
the authors documented and evaluated the waste filter backwash
water recycle practices at six full-scale surface water treatment
plants in Connecticut.
Because each treatment plant operates differently, understanding
the effects of recycle requires detailed and site-specific
information. The results of this study can help utilities
improve operation and monitoring to control potential recycle
effects and gather appropriate information for understanding
recycle practices. Includes 20 references, tables, figures.
