Recognizing the clear relationship between a clean water supply and the prevention of waterborne disease, the government of Thailand is stressing the need for safe water in its current economic and social development plan. One of the two major water supply agencies in Thailand, the Provincial Waterworks Authority, is handling the task of improving water quality and doubling plant output with minimum capital expenditure. This article describes how existing plant capacities were doubled without the addition of new basins and filters and evaluates the performance of the plants after modification.
