Throughout the world order water mains suffer from a range of problems. They are increasingly becoming less efficient either by virtue of declining ID due to the build up of corrosion or by ever more frequent breakage. However the holes in the ground they occupy remain a potentially valuable asset. A number of methods have been developed to use this asset, some simply coat the bore of the old pipe and provide minimal reinforcement, others structurally reinforce the original pipe thereby enhancing the original asset at minimum cost. This paper discribes the Thermopipe(TM) structural lining system and gives some examples of its use in the US.
