该标准接受导体、电缆或电缆、其他电气附件类，并在必要时对隔离电缆中继和管道系统中墙壁和天花板安装电缆中继和管道系统的个别要求进行规定。它的目的是在墙壁或天花板上埋入、反埋入或裸露，直接或间接安装在与墙壁或天花板分开的构筑物上。电缆中继及管道以下为CT/DS。该标准不适用于其他标准适用的电线管、电缆托架或电缆拉杆、电气辅助材料，如开关、插座等，或设备内的通电部件。其他种类出现在图101及附属书A中。
