This article discusses the procedures for solving problems of equilibrium chemistry through the use of spreadsheet calculations. Topics discussed include: the principles of spreadsheet technology; the behavior of common water treatment chemicals; and, equilibrium constants. Some example problems and solutions are supplied on the following subjects: constructing a lime titration curve; finding the pH of a blend of two water sources; calcium carbonate precipitation; achieving a pH-alkalinity goal; aluminum solubility; and, buffering intensities. Includes 23 references, tables, figures.
