At the Unified Sewerage Agency of Hillsboro, Oregon, a Planned MaintenanceTeam was formed to review current practices, procedures, and safety equipment certification requirements. The goal of reviewing and modifying the planned maintenance programs (preventive, predictive, and non-destructive) started by brainstorming a list of issues. A comprehensive survey of 200 questions in 18 different categories that related to key principles, best practices, and leadership philosophies was also completed. Another goal of the Team was to ensure that proper equipment was appropriately tested and that there was consistency among the four United Sewerage Agency's facilities. A list of critical equipment for each facility was developed; non-destructive testing methods were evaluated and assigned. A pilot program for testing the effectiveness of a Planner/Scheduler position was established in order to improve scheduling in accordance with best management practices. This paper describes the efforts of the Planned Maintenance Team and the outcomes of these efforts. Includes 3 references, appendix.
