MACHINE TOOL PERFORMANCE TESTING STANDARDS, SPECIFIED BY ANSI, ISO, BSI AND JIS, ARE DESCRIBED AND COMPARED. TWO DIFFERENT APPROACHES TO PERFORMANCE TESTING, BASED ON RANGE AND STANDARD DEVIATION, ARE IDENTIFIED. THE RESULTS OF THE COMPARISON CAN BE USED FOR FAIR EVALUATION OF COMPETING PRODUCTS AND LOW COST APPROACHES TO ACCURACY IMPROVEMENT, ERROR COMPENSATION, AND CONCURRENT ENGINEERING.
