RESEARCH HAS BEEN CONDUCTED ON A SUPERFINISHING MACHINE USED IN THE ANTIFRICTION BEARING INDUSTRY. THE EXPERIMENTS WERE DONE WITH ALUMINUM OXIDE, SILICON CARBIDE, AND CUBIC BORON NITRIDE (CBN) STONES. THE INFLUENCE OF THE OPERATING PARAMETERS OVER THE SUPERFINISHING PROCESS WAS DETERMINED FOR EACH TYPE OF ABRASIVE, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT SURFACE ROUGHNESS, STOCK REMOVAL RATE, STONE WEAR, SUPERFINISHING RATIO, AND POWER CONSUMED. AS A CONCLUSION, CBN SUPERABRASIVE STONES WERE COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL STONES TO HELP BEARING MANUFACTURERS SELECT THE BEST TYPE OF ABRASIVE STONES BASED ON APPLICATION AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS.
