This paper will not address all the "nut and bolt" aspects of repairing a large diameter pipe but will give the supervisor and/or manager an overview of ideas for planning equipment needs, material needs, and procedures for preparing to make needed repairs. For the purpose of this paper, Large Diameter Pipe is defined as 20 inch through 96 inch. Hopefully, when you have a large diameter pipe needing repair, it will be the kind of repair that can be scheduled when demand is low and worked in with your schedule. However, as we all know, this is not always the case; it's with the ones that break and need immediate attention where good planning and a good response procedure become very valuable.
