Preface:This is the third edition of CSA C22.2 No. 140.3,Refrigerant-containing components for use in electrical equipment. It is one of a series of Standards issued by CSA Group under Part II of theCanadian Electrical Code. It supersedes the previous editions published in 2009 and 1987.For general information on Standards of theCanadian Electrical Code, Part II, see the Preface of CSA C22.2 No. 0,General Requirements — Canadian Electrical Code, Part II.Scope:1.1This Standard applies to refrigerant-containing components that are intended to be used in field- installed refrigerating and/or air-conditioning systems in accordance with CSA B52 and that are charged with the refrigerant identified for use in the components. These components are intended for use in equipment designed to be installed and used in accordance with the rules of theCanadian Electrical Code, Part I(CE Code).1.2This Standard applies to refrigerant-containing components that are intended for use in factory- assembled refrigerating or air-conditioning equipment and that are also subject to the requirements in the standards applicable to the factory assembled equipment.1.3This Standard applies to refrigerant-containing components such as accumulators, condensers, evaporators, dryers, filters, heat exchangers, oil separators, liquid receivers, mufflers, liquid indicators, vibration eliminators, strainers, fusible plugs, and rupture members.1.4This Standard does not apply toa) electric valves, electric refrigeration controllers, refrigerant motor-compressors; orb) electrical components of assemblies incorporating these refrigerant-containing components or accessories.1.5This Standard does not apply to refrigerant-containing components that are within the scope of CSA B51, such as pressure vessels.1.6The values given in SI (metric) units are the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.1.7In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.
