Although the heat transfer principles embodied in the heat balance method are well known, no buildings have been constructed based on calculation results using that method. To achieve widespread acceptance of the new methodologies among practicing design engineers, a series of experimental cooling load measurements are needed. Experimental validation will provide strong confidence-building evidence to the designer using this load calculation procedure for the first time. Sensitivity analyses conducted; as part of this project will help all designers understand the impact of decisions routinely made as part of the load estimating process. The objective of this research project is to provide experimental validation of the heat balance and radiant time series cooling load calculation methodology and to provide data for inclusion in the Handbook of Fundamentals.
