This slide presentation outlines information on the California Energy Commission,
a state agency charged with
licensing thermal power plants that are 50 MW and larger,
adopting appliance and building energy efficiency
standards,
keeping track and forecasting state energy use,
conducting public interest energy research, and
proposing State's Integrated Energy Policies to the
Governor. Desalination trends are discussed, including: reverse osmosis (RO) technology becoming less expensive; costs of water from early California desalination plants; significant reduction in capital and O&M
costs over time due to technological advances; power consumption trend for seawater RO; desalination legislative action in California; Prop 50 grants; desalination activities in California at universities, Office of Naval Research, and California Energy Commission; and, proposed desalination plants in California. Includes table, figures.
