This package includes both ASHRAE Standard 62.2-2016, and the corresponding User's Manual.AboutASHRAE 62.2-2016:The 2016 edition of ANSI/ASHRE Standard 62.2 makes two major changes to scope by including unvented space heaters as a potential contaminant source and by expanding "covered dwellings" to include all multifamily dwelling units. A number of other significant changes are also incorporated. A minimal calculated mechanical ventilation rate is provided for existing buildings, below which installation of whole-house ventilation is not required; a distinction is now made between range hoods and other kitchen ventilation options; new methods are provided for determining an infiltration credit for horizontally attached multifamily dwelling units and for determining requirements for a variety of noncontinuous ventilation strategies; and a maximum short-term relative exposure limit is implemented for the first time.Standard 62.2 defines the roles of and minimum requirements for mechanical and natural ventilation systems and the building envelope intended to provide acceptable indoor air quality in low-rise residential buildings. As in the previous editions of this standard, there are three primary sets of requirements and a number of secondary ones. The three primary sets involve whole-building ventilation, local demand-controlled exhaust, and source control. The secondary requirements focus on properties of specific items needed to achieve the main objectives of the standard. Standard 62.2 applies to spaces intended for human occupancy within single-family houses and multifamily structures, including manufactured and modular houses. This standard does not apply to transient housing such as hotels, motels, nursing homes, dormitories, or jails. The standard considers chemical, physical, and biological contaminants that can affect air quality. It does not address thermal comfort requirements, specific pollutant concentration levels, or certain potential pollutant sources such as unvented combustion space heaters and contamination from outdoor sources or from episodic occupant-controlled events such as painting, smoking, cleaning, or other high-polluting events. The PDF download of Standard 62.2, in addition to offering immediate access to the content, presents the climate zone map in color for enhanced readability.AboutStandard 62.2 User's Manual:THE DEFINITIVE COMPANION TO STANDARD 62.2This companion guide provides detailed information on the requirements of Standard 62.2-2016, and includes tables, illustrations, and examples to aid users in providing for acceptableindoor air quality in residential systems. The provisions of Standard 62.2 address mechanical and natural ventilation as well as air leakage in these buildings, and this user’s manual provides concrete examples on how to apply the criteria set out by the standard.Standard 62.2 User’s Manual does not reproduce the requirements of the standard but rather paraphrases and elaborates upon them. Intended to be used in conjunction with the standard, this manual provides• Information on the intent and application of Standard 62.2• Sample calculations and examples• Best practices for avoiding foul odors and irritating contaminants• Guidance for whole-building and local exhaust ventilation• Valuable information on air-moving equipment• Specifi c examples and background material• Useful reference materialThis manual is intended for residential HVAC contractors and installers, as well as residential builders, developers, and architects. It may also be useful to code offi cials and even discerning and technically savvy homeowners, real estate agents, and home appraisal professionals. This manual is written in clear, direct language, making it understandable to professionals and laymen alike.Standard 62.2 User’s Manual is an essential supplement for professionals concerned with ventilation and indoor air quality in residences.
