该标准是利用高性能液相色谱（HPLC）荧光检测器的液-液萃取选择的15种多环芳香族化合物（见表1）测定时，饮用水和地下水为0.005μ大于g/L（每种单一物质）时，指标数为0.01μ适用于大于g/L的情况。该标准及部分改变的标准也适合废水的分析。在每种情况下，该标准也可以适用于经验证的不同PAH。

이 표준은 고성능 액체크로마토그래피(HPLC)의 형광 검출기를 이용한 액체－액체 추출에 의해 선택 된 15종의 다환 방향족 화합물(표 1 참조)의 측정시 먹는물과 지하수는 0.005 μg/L(각각의 단 일 물질 로)보다 큰 경우, 지표수는 0.01 μg/L보다 큰 경우에 적용된다. 이 표준 및 부분적으로 변경된 표준도 폐수의 분석에 적합하다. 이 표준은 각각의 경우에서 검증된 다 른 PAH에서도 적용할 수 있다.
