该标准规定了测试可能被放射性物质污染的表面耐盐性的条件。使用该试验方式获得的除盐性（去污性）数据长期暴露在高温和高压环境（反应堆一次回路等）中，不适用于污染物形成层的地方的技术系统。该试验的目的是在实验室条件下评价表面除盐的易用性。在实际应用时，在选择要使用的物质时，还需要考虑其他因素（耐化学性、机械耐性、耐辐射性及长期稳定性等），这一点很重要。还应该认识到，在模拟的条件下，可能需要进一步的除盐试验。

이 표준은 방사성물질에 오염될 수 있는 표면의 제염 용이성을 시험하기 위한 요건을 규정한다. 이 시험 방식을 사용하여 얻은 제염성(decontaminability) 데이터는 고온과 고압 환경(원자로의 1차 회로 등)에 장기간 노출되어 오염물질이 층을 형성한 곳의 기술 시스템에는 적용되지 않는다. 이 시험의 목적은 실험실 조건 하에서 표면 제염의 용이성을 평가하기 위한 것이다. 실제 적용 시에는 사용될 물질을 선택하는 데 있어 다른 요소(내화학성, 기계적 내성, 내방사선성 및 장기적인 안정성 등)도 고려하는 것이 중요하다. 모의된 조건 하에서 추가 제염 시험이 필요할 수 있다는 점도 인식해야 한다.
